Reinstalling Windows

Incase your Backup Images are not helpful during a PC problem and you are in the need of reinstalling Windows simply follow the steps below:

  • Recreate all previous User Accounts in the new Windows installation
  • Reboot to your BACKUP partition
  • Rename Users folder to UserOriginal
  • Delete or Rename Applications folder to ApplicationsOld
  • Format WINDOWS partition and Install Windows
  • Create all the user accounts you previous had
  • Reboot to your BACKUP partition
  • Delete Users folder
  • Rename UsersOriginal to Users
  • Reboot to WINDOWS partition

Your My Documents, Application Data, Local Settings will now be ready to use.

Once you downgrade yourself to a Limited User you might have to adjust some security permissions in folders to take ownership.

Successful reusage of Users folder

  • From Windows Server 2003 to Windows XP
  • From Windows XP to Windows Server 2003

Unsuccessful reusage of Users folder

  • From Windows XP to Windows XP MCE
    1. TV Tuner could not find any channels in MCE
