Convert DVR-MS to WMV format

This guide describe to methods to convert DVR-MS to WMV with WMA 9 Professional 5.1 channel audio.

Requirements

Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder

Windows Media Encoder 9

GraphEdit

GraphEdit Configuration

Open GraphEdit and Render your DVR-MS so that your graph will like the following

Play the file for about few seconds. This step is required to get the correct video input resolution.

Delete Default DirectSound Device

Delete Video Renderer

Graph > Insert Filers... >

DirectShow Filters > Moonlight MPEG2 MultiplEX > Insert Filer

Delete the MPEG2 Video Decoder

Connect the Decrypt/Tag (video) to Video Input of Moonlight MPEG2 MultiplEX

Delete the AC3 Decoder

Connect the Decrypt/Tag (audio) to Audio Input of Moonlight MPEG2 MultiplEX

DirectShow Filters > Moonlight DumpPos > Insert Filer

Browse for the location of the file you are going to create e.g. video_output.mpg

Output file

Close the "Which filters do you want to insert?" dialog box

Join the Moonlight MPEG2 MultiplEX and the video_output.mpg.

Your DirectShow graph should look like below:

Press Play

A MPEG2 file with PCM Audio 6 channel will be created

XviD MPEG4 Video Codec

Windows Media Encoder 9

Getting Started

Install AC3 Filter, Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder, ffdShow, Ogg DirectShow Filter Suite, XviD MPEG4 Video Codec and Windows Media Encoder

Configure AC3 Filter to 5.1 Channel as follows

GraphEdit Configuration

Open GraphEdit and Render your DVR-MS so that your graph will like the following

Delete Default DirectSound Device

Delete Video Renderer

Graph > Insert Filers... >

Video Compressors > ffdShow video encoder > Insert Filter

DirectShow Filters > Ogg Multiplexer > Insert Filter

DirectShow Filters > File Writer > Insert Filer

Browse for the location of the file you are going to create e.g. MyVideo.ogm

Select Output file

Press Open

Close the "Which filters do you want to insert?" dialog box

Join the Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder and the ffdShow video encoder.

Join the ffdShow video encoder and Ogg Multiplexer.

Join the AC3Filter and Ogg Multiplexer.

Join the Ogg Multiplexer and the Filter Writer

Your DirectShow graph should look like below:

Right Click to ffdShow video encoder to access its Properties

Choose the Encoder: XviD 1 and the Bitrate: 10000 kbps (intension is to preserve the source video quality)

Converting the DVR-MS to XviD with PCM Audio 6 channels

Press Play

A XviD file with PCM Audio 6 channel will be created

Now please follow Converting to WMV9 with WMA9 Professional 5.1 Channel.

Converting to WMV9 with WMA9 Professional 5.1 Channel

Start Windows Media Encoder

New Session > Convert a file

Browse for the file created by GraphEdit as the source file

Browse for the output file (MyMovie.wmv)

Encoding options > File archive

Deselect : Begin converting when I click Finish

Click Finish

Go to Properties

Go to Compression tab

Press Edit

Select Audio, and set Audio Codec to Windows Media Audio 9 Professional, set Mode to CBR

Select Video, and set Video Codec to Windows Media Video 9, set Mode to Bit Rate VBR (Variable Bit Rate)

Go to the tab next to General

Select Audio format > 256 kbps, 48 kHz, 5.1 Channel, 24 bit CBR

Set the Video Bit rate to 8000 Kbps or better (intension is to preserve the source video quality)

Set Video size to same as video input.  

Set frame rate 30 fps

Set Key frame interval to 4 seconds. Decreasing the key frame interval is suitable for high-motion content, such as movies. Do not set it lower than 4 otherwise it will take a very long time to encode.

Go to Attributes (optional). http://www.comingsoon.net/database.php

Press Apply

View > Video Panel, View > Audio Panel: deselect them both. This will reduce the encoding time to some extent

Close Properties

Press Start Encoding
